We understand the subtle and important nuances of track competition and have developed a rim with a very specific laminate ONLY for velodrome competition. Track competitors, particularly sprinters, are looking for lateral stiffness and wheels with a predictably quick reaction to steering and power input. To accomplish this we have reinvented our laminate structure to create the personality a track rider needs in a wheel. The rims are specifically designed for the higher frequency lower amplitude surface imperfections specific to track surfaces, thus helping keep the tires planted on the track even under extreme accelerations. The laminate is track specific, but the rim shape remains typical aircraft grade Zipp, resulting in higher overall performance than previous designs. ABLC dimpling technology (as found on our disc wheels) has been applied to the rims. This unique surfacing allows the air to flow around the wheel with less separation resulting in lower drag.

In 2005, the 404 track wheels were laced into the most technologically advanced track hubs ever designed, the all new Zipp high flange track hubset. The further refinement of our revolutionary track hub system has resulted in a weight reduction of 200g over the 2004 model. These hubs are as functional as they are beautiful, with proprietary Alcoa aluminum alloy and processing developed solely for this application. The goal: threads that are un-strippable, flanges that are unbendable, spoke holes that will never crack, and the stiffest axle assembly ever.
