Hi
Andy,
Just a
quick note re my impression of the new Aero 30 SL wheels you built
for me.
After
collecting them last Wednesday 22/07 I fitted them with Conti
GP4000S tyres and Vittoria ultralite 55 gram tubes and fitted them
to my bike, an Azzuri Mezzo Pro/ Dura ace, immediately the bike
looks fantastic, the clean simple lines of the black rims with the
contrasting braking surface just completes the bike. First
opportunity to ride is Friday 24/07, first impression is very
smooth, totally devoid of any vibration just smooth. First hill
told me everything, the comparison to my Mavic CXP 30 on dura ace
hubs that I had been using up til now was outstanding, I rode the
same route I ride every Friday - Wattle Glen, Kangaroo Ground,
Research, Mount Pleasant Rd. to Eltham South and return. This is a
particularly challenging and hilly ride with climbs from 10 - 22%
total distance 48kms. Smoother, faster and climb, I finished the
ride fresher and 7 mins faster!
Sat.
25/07 out with the saturday morning group from Diamond Creek more
of the same, 60kms of hills out through Hurstbridge, Arthurs Creek,
Strathewan, Cottles Bridge, St. Andrews, Panton Hill, Kangaroo
Ground, it just gets better with each ride, I have to hold myself
back because I have a race tomorrow. Sunday 26/07, 48km handicap
road race at East Trentham with Northern Vets, my best race ever
and finish 2nd with an average speed of 31 KPH (my previous best
race average was 28.5KPH), this may not mean much to someone of
your ability but to me at 56 years old and only been racing since
March 09 this is absolutely
amazing.
Thanks
Andy/Nick, these wheels are just fantastic. I will keep you
informed with my progress, kind
regards
John

As used by
current master pursuit world champion Stuart Vaughan & his
review :
Andy: I am writing to let you know how much I am loving your
"custom Aero30 SL" wheel set. I initially purchased them to use as
a training wheel. However, after 3 weeks of training on them, they
have now become my racing wheel set also. My current race wheels
are a set of similar custom wheel set from a Sydney based suppler (
worlds finest hand built wheels ) They were supposed to be low
spoke count ( 24 /28 ) and durable. However, I have broken 8 spokes
in 2 years on the drive side of the rear wheel and I am forever
truing them. Your wheels tick every box for me: 1. Strong (I weigh
it at around 95kg, so I feel that I am adequately "Qualified" to
assess your wheels strength) 2. Lateral stiffness (I rate lateral
stiffness as the most important road race wheel consideration.
Basically, the stiffer they are the more predictable high speed
cornering is. I have tested your wheels against both MXXXX KXXXXXX
SXX and XXXX 4X4 and as a result, will never use these wheels on
high speed descents again) 3. Balance (One of the key factors in
wheel design is how well balances a wheel is when it is spinning at
40+ km/h. When I purchase wheels I fit the tube/tyre and then test
if there is a "Heavy" point in the wheel. In every wheel I have
owned, I have needed to add between 5 ~ 15 grams of weight on the
rim to achieve a perfect balance. Your wheel set is the first that
I have not needed to add weights to.) 4. Low spoke count (I have
been racing on MXXXX XXXXXXX for a number of years. But after
several broken spokes and a number of rim replacements, I went back
to 32 spoke wheels sacrificing aerodynamics for reliability. I was
initially skeptical about your 20 spoke front and 24 spoke rear.
However, after hitting many pot holes they remain true) 5. Aero
spokes (Love the cold forged aero spokes you use)
